There are many models and sizes of drill bits, such as M3 drill bits and M4 drill bits. How do we choose the right drill bit for daily production?

Tungsten Steel Drill Bits

Compared with carbon steel, high-speed steel stands out for its excellent hardness, wear resistance and heat resistance, and can remain sharp during high-speed cutting. It is suitable for drilling various metals (such as iron, steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, etc.), plastics and wood. Different grades of high-speed steel (such as 4241, 9341, 6542, M35, etc.) have their own unique properties and application ranges. For example, M35 cobalt-containing high-speed steel has better heat resistance and wear resistance and is suitable for harsh processing environments. Although high-speed steel is more durable than carbon steel, its performance may still be limited under extremely high hardness and high temperature conditions, and its life is relatively short compared to cemented carbide. In addition, the price of high-speed steel drill bits is higher than that of carbon steel, but lower than that of cemented carbide.

Fixed-Point Drill Bits

Tungsten Carbide, known for its extremely high hardness and hot hardness, can withstand extremely high cutting speeds and high temperatures, while showing excellent wear resistance and impact resistance. It is designed for drilling high-hardness, high-wear-resistant materials such as hardened steel, cast iron, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, non-ferrous metals, stone and concrete. In these applications, the life of carbide drills far exceeds that of high-speed steel, especially in batch processing and heavy-duty operations. However, the price of carbide drills is relatively high, making them the most expensive of the three materials. In addition, despite its extremely high hardness, it has low toughness, so it has high requirements for the use method and workpiece clamping. Improper operation may cause chipping or breakage.
